Pest prevention is not a onetime thing. If you don’t want to see cockroaches, ants and mice around when you enter your home, not only you have to get pest control done, but also work on the methods of pest prevention.
The problem with some of us is, we are happy to spend money on interior designing, but we’ll pay attention to pests and bugs only when it’s out of control. Cockroach and ants are common especially when you are living in an apartment or a complex where there are plenty of flats. Even if you keep it clean, same drainage is shared by your neighbors where cockroaches can hide quite easily. And best of all pests and ants does not need an invite and they will appear without invitation (you may laugh, that was a pun).
Pest prevention is not all that complicated if you have a systematic plan and follow these pests control methods as mentioned here. So if you are fed up of pests and bugs and you want to get rid of them, then not only you should follow proper Pest Control Methods, but also consider measures for preventing them from re-appearing.
Here’s how to do pests prevention at home
As I said, I am sharing three of the most basic pests’ prevention techniques worth trying. Even after following these techniques if you see no effective results, that means the problem is bigger and you should take professional help from a pest control company in your city.
Cleaning can be a good pest control method
There is no need to mention this because all of us clean our home regularly. But do you clean it to prevent pests or you just remove dusts from the show case, floors and walls? Here’s how to do it right.
- Try to keep it clean all the time.
- Always clean kitchen tops and surrounding areas after cooking
- No left over or discarded food particles should be lying around. Ants like them the most.
- Pay attention to areas where food particles may be lying e.g. below tea table, dinner table, and inside the sink in your kitchen or under the sofa cushion.
- Don’t go to bed without properly cleaning the dishes.
- Don’t throw garbage in dustbin directly, put it in a poly bag and seal it before dumping.
De-cluttering the area for pest prevention
Decluttering is really amazing because cockroaches like such places to hide and breed. Check around and if you find area that has piles of old news papers, magazines, dvds etc then clean it. In India we have a tendency of putting old newspapers in the wardrobe and on the racks. Change these papers often probably every fortnight. If you are not doing so, you are inviting cockroaches. Decluttering is one of the most effective ways of keeping pests away from your home. And obviously it helps you in maintaining the cleanliness at your home.
Sealing the leakage and entry points of pests
Dark, moist places are the favorite spot for pests like cockroaches and ants. They also need food, water and shelter and such moist place is like heaven for these pests. Keep it dry. If you find any leakage around the sink or wash basin, just get them fixed instantly. Similarly ants may be hiding between the cracks near the sink or kitchen tops. Get them sealed and try to keep the area as dry as possible to get rid of pests like cockroaches and ants.
Conclusion
Pest control and prevention measures should be practices on daily basis. The basic pest prevention mantra should be to keep it clean, dry and crack free. Smaller Indian ants could easily be attracted towards the leftover food or snacks like biscuits or mixtures and thus cleanliness is the way to go.
